How would you feel if I told you that with a little creativity and a lot of flexibility you could fly to your next destination like a millionaire? Great right!? It’s easier than you think.
This is how it works. When the one percenters charter a private jet to a specific location, the chances of them having a customer who also needs to take that jet to the same location or having a customer on the other end to take the jet to another city where they have a customer are abysmal. So, the company ends up swallowing a lot of cost in flights with no passengers. These are called empty legs. So, to recoup some of those costs, private jet chartering companies have begun to sell those empty legs, often times at up to 75% off what the trip would usually cost. So a trip from Las Angeles to Cabo is $499 or about $90 a person.
Now here’s the rub. You don’t get this bottom of the barrel price for flights that are a week away. These are often next day deals which will require you to drop everything that you’re doing and go and get on a plane the next day. Thus, the flexibility that I mentioned at the beginning. You’ll also have to figure out a flight home and hotels. The hotel shouldn’t be as difficult as 1000s of hotel rooms go vacant every night in cities all over the country. In the same way that a chartering company doesn’t want jets to go empty, also hotel companies would prefer that all of their rooms stay booked.
